Bengal shocker: Snake found in mid-day meal; many children fall ill, hospitalized

Block Development Officer Dipanjan Jana, speaking to newsmen, confirmed that many villagers complained about their children vomiting after eating mid-deal meal at school.

New Delhi: In a hair-raising incident, a group of school children in West Bengal were admitted to hospital after a snake was reportedly spotted in their meal.

The incident happened in Birbhum district, where a primary school served the contaminated food, leading to sudden illness of children. At least 30 students of the primary school are said to be have hospitalized after consuming the mid-deal meal on Monday.

The shocking incident comes days after the West Bengal Education department said in an order that the children in schools will also be served chicken & non-vegetarian food in the mid-day meal, along with fruits & food.

According to a school staff also, one of the person who cooked the meal, also admitted that one of the containers filled with lentils had a snake in it.

As the students started getting unwell & started puking, they were taken to nearby Rampurhat Medical College and Hospital.

The shocking state of affairs has brought to fore the glaring lapses in administration of mid-deal meal scheme. The rival parties have upped the ante on TMC govt and are demanding that state govt takes strict action against the culprits.

The incident left the villagers & parents infuriated, who turned up at school and protested against the school authorities. Some angry parents also gheraoed Principal’s office and vandalized his vehicle..

Parents are demanding strong action against the school administration for careless & lax management.
