
New Delhi: In a major victory for India, an United Kingdom court allowed the extradition of Sanjay Bhandari to India on Monday. He is accused of money laundering in arms deals and tax evasion during the rule of the UPA government in India. He is also said to be a close aide of Robert Vadra. According to legal experts, Bhandari is left with an option to appeal before the London High Court.

However, Indian security agencies have to fight a tough battle to bring the fugitive to India. So far, the UK court’s order is a big motivation for security agencies that have been fighting the battle against Bhandari.

In India, the CBI and ED have cases against him. It is reported that Bhandari was issued a lookout notice in 2016 but he managed to flee the country. In a raid conducted in 2016 by the income tax department at his residence, several confidential defence ministry documents were seized.
After arriving in London, the UK authorities arrested him on July 15, 2020, on an extradition warrant. Notably, Congress’s general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s husband Robert Vadra always denied any connection with Bhandari in business.
