Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik take first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

The Central government launched the biggest vaccination drive on 16 January by first inoculating healthcare workers in the first phase and frontline line workers in the ongoing second phase respectively.

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine today as the nationwide inoculation drive of persons above 60 and those over 45 with illnesses began.

Bihar CM said,”Vaccination will be absolutely free in the entire Bihar state. Such facility will be made available even at private hospitals, it will be facilitated by the state government. ”

Taking to Twitter Naveen Patnaik wrote, “Happy to share that I took my first dose of #COVID19 vaccine today. Grateful to our scientists, health workers for their race against time to deliver the vaccines to people,” tweeted Patnaik. “Appeal to all eligible people to come forward and get vaccinated for a Covid Free Odisha.”

This comes hours after PM Modi took the first dose of  of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday wished Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on his birthday and praised him for undertaking numerous measures for the development of the state.

“Best wishes to Bihar CM @NitishKumar Ji on his birthday. Under his leadership, the NDA Government in Bihar is undertaking numerous measures for developing the state. Praying for his long and healthy life,” PM Modi tweeted. Janata Dal (United) workers are celebrating Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s 70th birthday as ‘Vikas Diwas’ across the state.

The eligible beneficiaries who are entitled to receive the COVID-19 vaccine from March 1, would be able to register themselves on the CO-WIN platform from Monday onwards. The Central government has created the Co-WIN application dedicated to monitor real time management of COVID-19 vaccination across the country.

India started its third phase of COVID-19 vaccination drive to inoculate people above 60 years and those over 45 with comorbidities against the coronavirus from March 1, the Central government has announced on Thursday.
