New Delhi: In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, millions have lost their job in India. The daily wage earners have seen dark days during the lockdown period. In the first quarter of 2021, the unemployment rate touched 10% in urban areas of the country.

A Bihar youth launched a unique initiative, which won accolades for generating new forms of employment for many.

Suman Kumar Jha from Bihar’s Samastipur launched a series of online digital grocery shops, which in turn provided jobs to the unemployed, reported a leading daily that covered his revolutionary start-up.

Being a student of Dr. MGR University in Chennai, he thought of working on a digital shop concept during his graduation days. After a year of research, he developed two apps that allow people to buy groceries virtually and employs the people carrying smartphones.

“People register themselves on the ‘ZILA Community Leadership (ZCL)’ app. After that, they start running digital grocery shops and start doorstep delivery of the items ordered by customers,” said Suman Kumar Jha.

The money earned by running the digital grocery shop is directly credited to the accounts of the partners of the ZCL app. The partners can earn between Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000 through the app, without setting a physical store.

Around 5,000 customers with hundred of partners have become part of the initiative. At least 10,000 orders have been delivered through the app. The 27-year-old has generated a revenue of 10 lakh in the past seven months in Patna, Khagual, and Bihta.

“Our aim is to take this initiative in each of Bihar’s 45,103 villages creating about 5 lakh of entrepreneurs utilising the digital accessibility of people even in the remotest parts of state,” stated Jha.
