BJP president JP Nadda tests positive for COVID-19, goes in isolation

As per earlier schedule, Nadda was to visit Bengal around Jan 10 but it was postponed owing to rising Covid cases. It was during Bengal campaign that the BJP President had turned Covid positive last year.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. The BJP leader has no symptoms but has isolated himself.

Nadda said: “I am feeling fine and have isolated myself on the advice of doctors.”

 


As per earlier schedule, Nadda was to visit Bengal around Jan 10 but it was postponed owing to rising Covid cases. It was during Bengal campaign that the BJP President had turned Covid positive last year.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of State for Defence Ministry Ajay Bhatt also tested positive for COVID-19 today.

Meanwhile, Delhi witnessed a slight dip in daily Coronavirus numbers after the city remained locked in curfew for 55 hours, starting last Friday.

Today, the national capital reported 19,166 new COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours, highest since May 5 last year, informed the state in a health bulletin.

As many as 15,68,896 people have been infected with COVID-19 infection in Delhi so far. With these 19,166 new cases, the active caseload has gone up to 65,806 in Delhi which is the highest May 15 last year. On May 15, Delhi’s active caseload stood at 66,295.

However, a total of 14,076 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 14,77,913 in the national capital.
