BJP protests outside CM Kejriwal’s residence over Rs 45 crore splurge on home renovation

The BJP workers protested loudly and also shouted slogans against the Chief Minister over reports of huge splurge on revamping his residence and demanded that the state administration comes clean on this.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Wednesday gathered outside Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence and held a demonstration over alleged ‘beautification’ of his official bungalow in Civil Lines, at a expense of about Rs 45 crore.

A leading Hindi news channel reported last night that the Delhi administration splurged about Rs 45 crore on renovating Chief Minister’s house and it was done at the cost of taxpayer’s money.

The BJP workers protested loudly and also shouted slogans against the Chief Minister over reports of huge splurge on revamping his residence and demanded that the state administration comes clean on this.

A couple of Delhi BJP leaders slammed the Chief Minister for ‘self-indulgence’ & also accused AAP dispensation of ‘looting’ the state exchequer for personal comfort.

East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir said that the CM was spending crores on rupees for luxury while poor are forced to live in shacks. Another BJP leader Kuljeet Chahal called him a ‘Mahathug’.

According to channel’s report titled “Operation Sheeshmahal”, a whooping Rs 44.78 crore of taxpayers’ money was spent on renovation of CM’s official bungalow.

The channel in its findings informed that curtains at Kejriwal’s residence was as expensive as Rs 5-8 lakh per piece.

All-round criticism for CM Kejriwal

The reports of beautification drew condemnation for the AAP convenor from all quarters, including BJP & Congress.
Congress leader Ajay Maken questioned Kejriwal’s talks of simplicity in public life and claimed that public funds were being used for meeting luxurious requirements at the CM’s bungalow.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra in a satirical take called Delhi CM a “maharaj” and said even emperors will have to bow down before Kejriwal, when it will come to luxury.

Parvesh Singh Verma, West Delhi BJP’s LS MP was unsparing in his criticism. He said that Arvind Kejriwal used to say that he will not buy car or a house, but was now living luxury at taxpayers’ expense.
