BJP tears into Punjab govt over PM Modi’s security breach, Nadda says ‘CM was unwilling to help’

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda today came down heavily on Channi govt in Punjab over the security breach of Prime Minister, while the latter was on way to Firozpur for addressing a rally.

Taking strong exception to Punjab govt & police’s lack of preparedness, Nadda slammed the Channi govt for not ensuring that security mechanism was not in place. Nadda also hit out at the Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and claimed that he was not available on the phone to address or solve the matter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to address a rally in Firozpur today but got stuck at a flyover due to inclement weather.

PM Modi landed at Bathinda from where he was to go to National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala by helicopter. Due to rain and poor visibility, PM waited for about 20 minutes for the weather to clear out. When weather didn’t clear out, he chose the road route and was assured of full protection by DGP Punjab Police. However, PM Modi’s convoy was forced to stay put at a flyover as protestors assembled at the roads and blocked the roads. Due to the major security lapse, Prime Minister’s convoy made a retreat after waiting for 15-20 minutes.

Nadda slammed the Congress government for not upholding the democratic principles of governance & ensuring that adequate arrangements were put in place.
