‘BJP will get more than 200 seats in MP…’: CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Rahul Gandhi’s claim of Congress getting 150 seats

Ahead of Assembly Elections likely to be held in November 2023, the political discourse and claims have begun.

New Delhi: After Rahul Gandhi’s claim of Congress is set to win 150 seats in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that BJP will win more than 200 seats. Ahead of Assembly Elections likely to be held in November 2023, the political discourse and claims have begun. CM Chouhan taunted Congress as he replied to Rahul Gandhi.

In a byte given to the news agency ANI, Shivraj Singh Chouhan quoted a line from Ghalib’s couplet indicating Congress is creating ideas to amuse their hearts. He claimed that BJP will win more than 200 seats out of the 230 total seats in the assembly. Chouhan also called Rahul Gandhi’s remarks ‘khayali pulav’ (imaginary casserole).

Congress held a meeting to strategise for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections. Talking to reporters, former Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said that they had a long discussion and their internal assessment says that like they got 135 seats in the Karnataka elections, they will win 150 seats in MP. He added that they will repeat what Congress did in Karnataka.

When Rahul was asked if Kamal Nath will be the Chief Ministerial candidate, the Congress leader refrained from answering the question.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan government’s tenure will end in January 2024 and the elections are likely to be held by the end of 2023. Last time, the assembly polls were held in November 2018 where the results showed a hung assembly.

In the 2018 elections, Kamal Nath was sworn in as the Chief Minister when Congress formed the government winning 114 seats, and getting support from BSP, SP, and four independent MLAs. However, in 2020 the Madhya Pradesh Assembly saw a situation of crisis when a few Congress MLAs resigned and Jyotisaditya Scindia joined BJP. Supreme Court ordered a floor test and Shivraj Singh Chouhan formed the government.
