Calcutta HC to Bengal education minster’s daughter: Return salary of 41 months and vacate post

West Bengal Education Ministere Paaresh Chandra Adhikari’s daughter Ankita Adhikari has been dismissed from her job as a teacher in a government school by the Calcutta High Court on Friday.

New Delhi: West Bengal Education Ministere Paresh Chandra Adhikari’s daughter Ankita Adhikari has been dismissed from her job as a teacher in a government school by the Calcutta High Court on Friday. The HC ordered her to return the salary of her tenure of 41-month.

The order was passed by the single bench of Justice Avijit Gangopadhyay. As per the order, Adhikari’s daughter Ankita Adhikari is to deposit her salary in two installments with the registrar general of the High Court.

The first installment will have to be submitted by Ankita by June 7 and the second installment by July 7, 2022.

She has reportedly received the salary since November 2018. She is a recognised government teacher by the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) and appointed by the West Bengal of Secondary Education.

In the order, the bench also said Ankita will also not be treated as a government teacher. As per the order, she has also been barred from entering the school premises by the court till further orders.

The order came after the HC heard a petition filed by a candidate who claimed that the board did not offer her the job despite securing more marks than the Adhikari’s daughter in the recruitment examination.

The petitioner said she scored 77 marks while Ankita Adhikari received the offer letter by securing only 61.

A further probe will be done into the appointment by the CBI, according to the court’s order.

The post will be vacant for the eligible candidate till the probe gets completed.
