New Delhi: Captain Amarinder Singh, the former Punjab Chief Minister and a political veteran of state is all set to merge his Punjab Lok Congress party into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a leading portal said quoting sources.
The former Congressman had floated his new political outfit after he was unceremoniously shown the door from Congress party last year.
According to reports, the talks between Punjab Lok Congress & BJP are in advanced stage and if all goes well, the former may merge into latter after Captain’s return from London next week. The veteran leader had gone to London for a surgery.
Captain’s exit from the party triggered departure of series of or Congress leaders from the party, allegedly miffed over the cold-shouldering of state unit by top leadership. Sunil Jakhar, who served as senior minister in previous Congress governments snapped ties with the party and joined the BJP. Along with him, several leaders including Sundar Sham Arora (Cong working president), Raj Kumar Verka and Balbir Singh Sidhu and Gurpreet Singh Kangar quit the party & moved to BJP with Jakhar.
However, a leading daily reports that the saffron party is not keen on accommodating Captain’s wife and sitting MP Preneet Kaur. It may be noted that she remained with the Congress even when Captain left it and formed his own party.
The saffron party is reportedly upset with Preneet Kaur’s demands for a Lok Sabha seat for her daughter Jai Inder Kaur. Moreover, Jai Kaur’s husband is already under the scanner over alleged misappropriation of bank money by his fraud.
