CBI recovers Rs 50 lakh during raids at Congress’s DK Shivakumar’s premises

The CBI has raided multiple premises of senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar in connection with the alleged corruption case against him.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday raided the premises of senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar and recovered Rs 50 lakhs in cash so far.

The raids are being conducted at 14 locations including Shivakumar’s residence at Doddalahalli, Kanakapura and Sadashiva Nagar, in Bengaluru.

“Rs 50 lakhs in cash have been recovered so far,” sources in the CBI said

The alleged corruption case was registered by the CBI based on the inputs shared by the Enforcement Directorate over a money-laundering probe. The CBI has registered a case against the then Minister of Karnataka Government and others on the allegations of acquisition of disproportionate assets.

The current raid has already led to a war of words between the ruling BJP and the Congress. The Congress is alleging that the Centre is using the CBI to fix DKS ahead of by-election to two assembly seats in the state.

Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala slammed the Karnataka government and called the CBI a “puppet” of the BJP government in the state under BS Yediyurappa.

“The insidious game of intimidation and machinations of Modi-Yeddyurappa duo being executed by a puppet CBI by raiding DK Shivakumar won’t deter us,” Surjewala said.

“CBI should be unearthing the layers of corruption in Yeddyurappa Govt. But, ‘Raid Raj’ is their only Machiavellian Move,” he added.

Last year, the 58-year-old Karnat aka Congress chief was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate after four days of questioning over money-laundering allegations.

Earlier the state government had given permission to probe corruption charges against Shivakumar to the CBI. This was based on a letter from the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
