Children’s Day 2023: Here’s a Sneak Peak at the History behind the Special Day

New Delhi: Children’s Day is being celebrated all across the country as a special day to remember Jawahar Lal Nehru who was fondly remembered as the ‘Chacha Nehru’ of India. The day is also called ‘ Bal Diwas’ and is celebrated every year on 14th November to appreciate and value the children as they are the future of our nation. The day holds significance as it is also the Birth Anniversary of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru whom children used to call ‘Chacha Nehru’. Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 in Allahabad.  He was fond of children and always encouraged the right to education for each and every child in the country.

Why this Day is celebrated on Nehru’s Birthday

He also encouraged a system where education must be reachable for every child and no child should be deprived of being educated. He always said children are buds of a garden and they should be carefully and lovingly nurtured as they are the future of the nation and citizens of tomorrow’s India. The day used to be celebrated on November 20 earlier but after the death of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Parliament issued a resolution to celebrate Children’s Day on the 14th of November on the birth Anniversary of Pandit Nehru.

Many Cultural Events & Programs organized on this Day

Pandit Nehru also introduced many educational institutions during his tenure as a Prime Minister. Many Schools organized different programs and events on this day to mark the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawahar lal Nehru and Children’s Day. Many Seminars, Essay Competitions, debates, painting competitions, dance and cultural shows are also organized on this day.
