The Chief Minister also added that her contribution to Gujarati Sugam Sangeet will remembered for many years.

New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has expressed grief over the demise of Kaumudiben Munshi, the legendary singer of Gujarati Sugam Sangeet.

Paying homage to Late Kaumudiben, the Chief Minister said that Kaumudiben, a renowned singer of Gujarati Sugam Sangeet, made Gujarati compositions resound from house to house with her melodious voice.

The Chief Minister also added that her contribution to Gujarati Sugam Sangeet will remembered for many years.

Though Kaumudiben was more popular in her performance of Sugam Sangeet (Light Music), she is one of the few Gujarati artists who excelled at Thumris.

She spent 5 years learning Gazals from famous musician Taj Ahmed Khan.

Kaumudiben Munshi

Kaumudiben Munshi is lovingly called the “Nightingale of Gujarat” by her critics and fans both alike. Though she learnt Indian Classical Music, she had keen interest in Thumri, Dadra, Chaiti, Kajari, Gazals and Bhojpuri Folk Songs.

She always believed Music is goddess Saraswati herself and therefore, each time she sang, she assumed it as a sacred art of worship.
