CM Rupani extends subsidized foodgrain facility to additional 10 lakh families, to get 5 kg rice, wheat every month

The CM has also decided to provide food grains at a concessional rate to the senior citizens who are getting pension from the Central- State Government under the old age pension scheme.

New Delhi: Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani has taken one more people-centric decision to provide food grains to additional 10 lakh families of the state at concessional rates under the National Food Security Act-NFSA.

Mr. Rupani has taken this decision keeping in mind the benefit of the people of the state and individuals can get food grains at concessional rates.

As a result of this people-centric decision by CM about 50 lakh people will be able to get food grains at a concessional rate every month. Not only this, these 50 lakh people will also get all the benefits of NFSA.

As per the decision made by CM such beneficiaries will receive a total of 5 kg food grains including Two rupees per kg of wheat and three rupees per kg of rice from government approved fair price shops- Pandit Deendayal Grahak Bhandar’s.

During the prevailing situation in the entire state, 50 per cent of the total population i.e. more than three and a half crore people are being provided food grains at concessional rates every month under NFSA.

This people-centric decision of the CM will benefit 50 lakh people from 10 lakh families under NFSA. He expressed his sympathy to cover all the disabled persons of the state, Ganga Swarupa mothers and sisters, old age pensioners under this scheme.

Rupani has also taken sensitive decisions for the first time in history and has decided that rickshaw drivers, drivers of Loading-Mini Tempo, daily earners living in towns and villages will also be given food grains at concessional rates.

Chief Minister, while deciding to cover all the disabled beneficiaries of the state under NFSA, also decided that any of the registered disabled beneficiaries availing various schemes of Central as well State Government like Divyang Pension Equipment-Assistance, ST Bus Pass would also be included in NFSA.

Individuals with disabilities living in disability welfare institutions recognized by the State Department of Social Security will be given a personal NFSA card. Ganga Swarupa mothers and sisters from State Government recognized institutions will be benefited under NFSA.

The CM has also decided to provide food grains at a concessional rate to the senior citizens who are getting pension from the Central- State Government under the old age pension scheme.

The CM has also taken the people-centric approach of raising the age limit for getting food grains under NFSA to 60 years instead of 65 years for senior citizens to benefit such senior citizens. The CM has shown that the benefit of this scheme will also be given to the senior citizens living in the institutions-old age homes recognized by the state government.

Chief Minister has also instructed to benefit the BPL families who are not included in the NFSA of the state to avail the benefits of the Food Security Act.

Apart from this, he has decided to cover the construction workers registered with Gujarat Construction Workers Welfare Board in the NFSA scheme.

It is worth mentioning here that GoG has distributed 12.50 lakh metric tonnes of food grains free of cost from April to June in COVID Pandemic.
