New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minster Vijay Rupani laid the foundation stone of water supply scheme worth Rs 287 crores in Mehsana today. He said that our government has launched and completed several schemes to meet the basic needs of the citizens. During congress regime, people and their queries or questions were forgotten, our government has solved such problems of the citizens.
“Our government has completed and dedicated all schemes which were launched or laid foundations by us. During congress regime, no works were carried out till 12-15 years from the day of laying the foundation stone and at the end the budget allocated for the scheme needs to be raised,” he said.
Criticizing the past water supply situation in North Gujarat, CM said that people suffering from elephantiasis, broken bones, yellowing of teeth due to fluoridated, alkaline and bore well water.
Two decades ago, in the year 2000, only 4700 villages in the state had water supply schemes under the Congress rule. Only 24 percent had access to tap water. The pipeline of group water supply schemes was in a broken condition due to which major of villages dint get water.
Describing the dire water situation in the state in the 1980s and 90s, Mr. Rupani said that, Water by train in Saurashtra-Kutch and by tanker in the state was provided wherein corruption was carried out and people need to roam for every single drop of water.
During congress regime, the annual budget was only Rs. 8000 crore, our government has made a budget of Rs. 2 lakh 10 thousand crore. Not only that, in the past we used to get 45 liters of water per head now we give 150 liters.
The CM said that water has been supplied to Saurashtra-Kutch-North Gujarat through various schemes like Narmada Canal, Sauni Yojana, Sujalam Sufalam, Dharoi, Kadana, Ukai. In the last three days, works worth Rs. 2,276 crores have been started in the state for water supply and irrigation.

The CM made it clear that water is the primary need for development. If the farmer gets facilities like water, electricity, fertilizer, seeds, purchase at support price, then the farmer of Gujarat has the power to feed the whole world.
Mr. Rupani questioned the Congress persons who went out to pursue their political interests in name of farmer’s movement, in past under the Congress rule, a farmer would take money at 18 per cent interest and not even a penny would be bought at the support price.
In your election manifesto, you removed the APMC Act and promised to allow farmers to sell goods including fruits all over the country, now when Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has taken this bold step, how are you going to protest? Questioned Mr. Rupani.
The CM also expressed his commitment for successful implementation of several schemes like Water, Irrigation, Kalpsar Yojana, Narmada Yojana to make Gujarat a water surplus state like energy surplus.
Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Nitin Patel said that, we are moving forward with determination towards making Gujarat self-sufficient in drinking water and irrigation. This government is committed to provide adequate supply of clean drinking water in all cities and villages of Gujarat.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has implemented the Nal Se Jal Yojana to provide clean drinking water to every citizen of the country under which works of various water supply schemes worth Rs. 287 crores have been laid foundations in Mehsana district today.
Highlighting the past of North Gujarat, the Deputy Chief Minister said that in the past, tubewells were used to meet the water needs of North Gujarat. As a result, drinking fluoridated water in North Gujarat has weakened the bones of the citizens.
The Deputy Chief Minister further said that the credit of Nal se Jal Yojana goes to our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to provide Narmada drinking water to 04 crore citizens out of 6.30 crore people of the state. He also stressed that the work of this scheme is being completed very quickly.
Water Supply Minister Mr. Kunvarji Bavaliya while giving various information about the works being done by water supply said that, in order to get more water for the villages of Narmada based Mehsana district, 122 MLD water will be extracted from Modhera Offtech of Narmada Main Canal through a scheme of Rs.250 crore. Out of which 47 MLD has been provided for Mehsana city. Apart from this, he informed about the ongoing works of various water supply schemes Package 01, Package 02 and Package 03 in the district.
