Uttar Pradesh: Schools to be converted into vax centres to speed up vaccination

Coronavirus cases have fallen sharply in UP since the devastating months at the start of the year, with Active Caseload been reduced to 99.

Lucknow, November 15, 2021: Even as Uttar Pradesh has administered the highest number of Covid-19 vaccine doses in the country – over 14.03 crore by Monday – and is conducting the vaccination drive rapidly, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the officials to expedite the pace of the vaccination campaign, with a focus on the second dose, across the state.

While reviewing the progress of the ongoing vaccination drive in the state, CM Yogi on Monday issued fresh directives to step up the inoculation drive by setting a target of delivering 25 to 30 lakh doses every day in the next two months.

In a high-level meeting, CM Yogi Adityanath instructed the officials, “A target should be set to vaccinate around 25 to 30 lakh people daily so that 100 percent eligible population gets vaccinated against Covid-19 . To expedite vaccine coverage, the Additional Chief Secretary, Health must start up the preparations and speed up the proceedings by holding a meeting with all the CMOs of the state.”

Over 69 per cent of the state’s total eligible adult population have received at least one dose, while around 26 per cent are fully immunized.

Of the target population of 15 crores, more than 3.83 crore people in the state have been fully vaccinated.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had issued a deadline to vaccinate the 100 percent eligible population by December 15. He had asked the health officials to come up with a special drive to enthuse and motivate people towards vaccination against the infection.

The government has adopted the ‘Cluster Model 2.0’ to improve the second dose coverage in the state. Giving priority to the full vaccination, the work of applying the second dose using the cluster model 2.0 is being done in those villages/localities where the first dose was successfully administered through the cluster model.

The state-wide launch of the cluster model earlier in June for the Covid-19 vaccination drive made the task easy, equitable, and seamless, eliminating crucial roadblocks like transport and the digital divide.
