New Delhi: Amid the interrogation of Rahul Gandhi by Enforcement Directorate (ED) sleuths in the alleged money laundering probe, Congress lawmaker Vivek Tankha has written to the government to stop selective leakage of ‘false’ information against Rahul Gandhi, claiming that it is a blatant & brazen attempt to tarnish the latter’s reputation.

In a letter addressed to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman & Home Minister Amit Shah, the senior Congress leader took objection to the peddling of fake narrative against the Gandhi scion and alleged that it was being done at the behest of investigative agency’s political masters.

“ED officials must stop spreading fake narratives about Rahul Gandhi for ulterior political motives and being done with an intention to settle political score, “ Congress legal cell leader wrote.

He said that Rahul Gandhi has been a vociferous & most credible face against the faulty policies of BJP-ruled regime and the latter must refrain from misusing the agencies to browbeat its political opponents and further its political interests.

Further defending the Gandhis, he said, “The case against Rahul Gandhi is utterly hopeless and has no basis in law. The enquiry process concerning AJL started in 2013-14 and the agency kept sleeping for a decade.”

Coming down heavily on the ED sleuths, he said that investigative agency was selectively divulging false information to some media houses to create negative image about Gandhis. Taking note of the reportage during Rahul’s questioning on June 13 & 14 by ED team, he alleged that actual facts were being moulded & released with malafide motive to certain media channels, to malign Rahul Gandhi.

“If the ED didn’t reveal any information, they how the news outlets ran misleading reports and why the agency didn’t do anything?”, he asked.

He also called upon the ED and government to stop ‘sham and charade’ investigation, urging all to desist from the practice of disseminating false information and also demanded that those officials be identified and penalized who resorted to ‘selective leaks’ against Rahul Gandhi.
