Congress releases first list for UP Polls, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra names mother of 2017 Unnao rape victim as Cong candidate

In the 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP won a landslide victory winning 312 Assembly seats. The party secured a 39.67 per cent vote share in the elections for 403-member Assembly.

New Delhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today (January 13) released Congress party’s first list of 125 candidates for Uttar Pradesh polls.

“Out of the total 125 candidates, 40% are women & 40% are the youth. With this historic initiative, we hope to bring in a new kind of politics in the sate,” she said.

Also, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra named mother of 2017 Unnao rape victim as Congress candidate for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.

She said that Asha Singh wanted to contest elections so Congress gave her an opportunity.

Notably, Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s wife Louise Khurshid has also been given the ticket, informed the Congress leader.

Elections for the 403 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases starting February 10, the Election Commission said. The polling in Uttar Pradesh will be held on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27 and March 3 and 7 in seven phases.

The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
