Congress writes to Home Minister, claims security breach in Rahul’s Bharat Jodo Yatra

Writing to the Home Minister, Venugopal stated that Bharat Jodo Yatra entered Delhi, on December 24, and the Delhi police completely failed at crowd control and maintaining a perimeter around Rahul Gandhi.

New Delhi: KC Venugopal, the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), wrote a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, citing a security breach in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. He alleged that the Delhi police did not do their job properly to ensure the Z+ security assigned to Rahul Gandhi. AICC also alleged that the security has been compromised on multiple occasions.

Writing to the Home Minister, Venugopal stated that Bharat Jodo Yatra entered Delhi, on December 24, and the Delhi police completely failed at crowd control and maintaining a perimeter around Rahul Gandhi. He added that Congress workers and the ‘Bharat Yatris’ had to form the perimeter while the Delhi police stood as ‘mute spectators’.

He alleged that Intelligence Bureau (IB) is interrogating many people who participated in the Yatra. Moreover, Congress filed an FIR dated December 23 at Sohna City Police Station, Haryana as ‘unknown miscreants’, belonging to Haryana State Intelligence, illegally entered the Yatra in Haryana.

Venugopal further wrote that Article 19 of the Constitution gives every citizen a Constitutional right to assemble and move freely throughout the territory of India and asked the government to not indulge in ‘vindictive politics’. Justifying the intent, he stated that former PM Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for the ‘unity and integrity of the country’ and Congress’s state leadership of Chhattisgarh was the victim of a Naxal attack in Jiramghati in 2013.

He asked the Home Ministry to ensure the Z+ security for Rahul Gandhi as Bharat Jodo Yatra is set to move in Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir.
