Coronavirus crisis: Delhi’s iconic Taj Mansingh hotel to turn into Covid hospital

As per the order, the hotel will provide all the services, including rooms, housekeeping, disinfection, and foods to COIVD-19 patients.

New Delhi: With Coronavirus crisis getting deeper in the city, Delhi government on Tuesday directed iconic Taj Mansingh hotel to isolate all their rooms and place them at disposal of Sir Gangaram Hospital with immediate effect for accommodating Corona patients.

As per the order, the hotel will provide all the services, including rooms, housekeeping, disinfection, and foods to COIVD-19 patients. Its staff will be provided all protective gear and basic training. The hospital will also be in charge of treatment and providing ambulance services.

“The charge shall be collected by hospital and the hospital shall make the payment to hotel,” the order said.

According to the government’s decision, the room rent in a five-star hotel will be Rs 5,000 a day. Besides, a maximum of Rs 5,000 a day can be charged for medical services which will be all-inclusive except for oxygen. An extra Rs 2,000 can be charged per day for provision of the oxygen cylinders.

Delhi is fast running out of hospital beds and is struggling to contain the pandemic. As per state govt’s own assessment, the city is staring at about 5.5 lakh Coronavirus cases and will require almost 80,000 beds.
