New Delhi: Coronavirus is rearing its ugly head again, at least, the soaring numbers suggest so. The nation recorded its highest number of fresh Covid-19 cases in past 24 hours. At 3,016 cases in 24 hours, this is highest single-day hike since September 2022.

Though, the fresh virus infection hasn’t been as lethal as the dreaded times of pandemic but Covid-related deaths have been reported from various parts of the country including Karnataka, Maharashtra & a few more states.

The last such spike in Covid-19 cases was recorded in October 2022. On October 2, a total of 3,375 cases were recorded.

The surge in Covid-19 also means increase in positivity rate, a parameter which indicates the speed of virus spread. According to official numbers from Union Health Ministry, there are a total of over 13,000 active cases in the country, till Thursday.

The spike in Covid-19 cases has sent alarm bells ringing for the Health Ministry as it bears similarity with the ‘existing pattern’ of virus spread in last few years.

Since 2020, March has been a month of worry as Corona cases started building up and in very less time snowballed into a big crisis. Though, country’s leading doctors & experts have ruled out any fear of health hazard building up, the rising numbers are surely a concern.

Corona review meetings by Health departments has already begun and officials are contemplating about bringing Covid restrictions in place.

Covid deaths, vaccines & recoveries

According to official estimates, the country has recorded a total death toll of 5,30,862 due to Covid-19 virus. Among the latest 14 deaths, 3 Covid-related deaths were reported from Maharashtra, 2 from Delhi & 1 from Himachal.
