Day after backlash, Canadian singer Shubh’s Mumbai concert cancelled

A day ago, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of BJP demanded the cancellation of his concerts over his alleged support to the Khalistani movement.

New Delhi: Amid the souring ties between India and Canada, the Mumbai concert of Canada-based Punjabi singer Shubh was called off on Wednesday.

The singer, accused of harbouring pro-Khalistani sentiments, found himself in the eye of storm after he reportedly extended support to anti-India voice in a social media post. The singer received all-round criticism for lending either unintended or deliberate support to pro-Khalistani elements, with many clamoring for boycott of his concert.

According to reports, BookMyShow has initiated refund of the ticket amount to all consumers, following the cancellation of singer Shubh’s ‘Still Rollin Tour’.

A day ago, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of BJP demanded the cancellation of his concerts over his alleged support to the Khalistani movement. The singer had reportedly shared an India map, where the states of Punjab & Haryana were blackened.

Besides online backlash, the singer’s Mumbai concert also lost a couple of top sponsors. boAt, a leading Indian start-up withdrew its sponsorship of the show and also released a statement for the same.

“When we became aware of the remarks made by artist Shubh earlier this year, we chose to withdraw our sponsorship from the tour. We will continue to foster a vibrant music culture in India,” said the company in an official statement.

Shubh snubbed by cricketers?

Shubh earned fame for his songs “Elevated,” “OG,” and “Cheaques”.

The anger & indignation against the singer was not limited to social media. A couple of celebrities including leading cricketers distanced themselves from the singer by disliking his social media account.

From Virat Kohli to KL Rahul to Hardik Pandya, all are said to have unfollowed the singer on his social media account.
