Delhi CM announces Rs 50,000 ex-gratia for families with a Covid death, Rs 2,500/month for orphaned kids

Delhi Chief Minister also announced free rations to poor families struggling during the Covid-19 crisis and lockdown. He said poor families would get 10 kg of rations free this month.

New Delhi: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced a range of compensation and welfare measures for those deprived of their loved ones due to Covid-19 pandemic.

“Every family that has had a death due to COVID-19 among them, will be given Rs 50,000 each as ex-gratia. Families where the breadwinner has died, will be given Rs 2500 monthly pension besides the ex-gratia.

Free education for orphaned children, due to Covid-19

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also announced free education for children, orphaned due to Coronavirus and a financial assistance of ₹ 2,500 per month (till they turn 25).

“Children orphaned due to Covid-19 or with one parent already dead and the other parent succumbing to Covid, will be given Rs 2,500 monthly pension till they attain the age of 25 years. They will be provided free education,” announced CM Kejriwal.


10 Kg free ration to 72 lakh families each

The Delhi Chief Minister also announced free rations to poor families struggling during the Covid-19 crisis and lockdown. He said poor families would get 10 kg of rations free this month.

“There are 72 lakh ration card holders in Delhi and they are given 5 kg ration by the government every month. This month, ration will be given free of cost. An additional 5 kg of free ration is being given by the Central government. So they are being given 10 kg free ration this month,” Delhi CM said.
