New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s security cover has been downgraded by the Centre, sources in the CM’s office said on Thursday.
According to reports, the number of commandos of the Delhi Police in Kejriwal’s security has now been reduced from 6 to 2.

The development comes ahead of Kejriwal’s visit to Gujarat tomorrow and days after AAP’s impressive show in Gujarat Municipal Corporation elections.

The move is likely to trigger a fresh faceoff between the AAP and the NDA. On Wednesday, the Delhi CM said he will be visiting the state on February 26.

MHA, Delhi Police deny any relaxation in security

However, Home Ministry officials denied the charge and said no such decision has been taken by it.

“Security component is intact. There has been only replacement in officials, no reduction in security,” MHA officials said.

Delhi Police has also refuted the allegations that Kejriwal’s security has been downgraded.

“We have not reduced the security of Delhi CM. In fact, taking into account his movements, roadshows and election time, the Z plus security has been strengthened,” a news agency said quoting a senior police officer.

The AAP won 27 seats in the municipal polls in Gujarat’s Surat, where the party convener will participate in a roadshow on Friday. Kejriwal will participate in roadshows and will also hold meeting with local leaders to start campaigning for Gujarat Assembly elections, due next year.
