New Delhi: India is currently facing an unprecedented rise in the daily coronavirus numbers. Amid the surging casualties due to the deadly covid-19 virus, health infrastructure has been crumbled.

But in this chaos, there are many warriors who are working day and night just to defeat this virus, among them is a 56-year-old Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Rakesh Kumar. He is helping families in the cremation of Covid victims ensuring dignity in death for the deceased.

“I have helped nearly 1100 people. I have taken both shots of vaccines and take all precautions. If we help others, the God will help us,” ASI Rakesh Kumar said.

Kumar is deployed at Hazrat Nizamuddin police station and he has till now helped 1100 people in cremation of their loved ones.

The policeman has even postponed his daughter’s marriage so that he continues to help people in need. “I have postponed my daughter’s marriage to help people here,” Kumar, 56, said, adding, “How can I think of celebrations at such time.”

“There are times when a woman or an elderly person loses their loved one and is alone. They don’t know what to do. The ambulances put the bodies outside the ground and leave. We have to help them. I have helped children cremate their parents and grandparents. The second wave is bad. I remember helping a teenager perform the last rites of his father; that pain and suffering can’t be explained,” said Kumar.
