New Delhi: Looking at the violation of rules and arbitrary increase in fees in the 2021-22 session, the Delhi government has cancelled the recognition of DPS-Rohini School. The school will, however, be allowed to complete the 2022-23 session, but admission for 2023-24 will not be possible. Meanwhile, the school will have to return the excess fees immediately and the employees will have to adjust according to the same.
The Directorate of Education of the Delhi government issued a notice to cease the recognition of DPS-Rohini School. The notice said that due to ‘repeated non-compliance of the directions’, the Directorate has taken this harsh step. The excess fees and the legal notices sent to the parents violated Rules 50(xvii) and 50 (xix) of Delhi School Education Rules, 1973.
According to the Directorate, the school authorities were directed not to increase the fees for the academic session 2018-19 and 2019-20. The schools also had to roll back the increased fee above the fee structure submitted for the session 2015-16.
The notice also stated that the response submitted by DPS-Rohini School ‘was not satisfactory’. The school did not comply with the 15% fee deduction as ordered by the Delhi High Court in 2021. The notice referred to the act as ‘commercialisation’ and ‘exploitation of parents’.
The order will have an effect on the students and the staff. According to the directions, students will be shifted to nearby schools run by the DPS Society or nearby government schools. The order also said that the staff is to be adjusted in other DPS branches in the city.
