Delhi Police rescues 5 year old boy, kidnapped from New Delhi Railway Station; accused nabbed

Pictures of the suspect with the child were developed and widely circulated for tracing kidnapper’s whereabouts. As soon as police got some hints, they sprung into action and nabbed the accused from Shri Shakti Express train.

New Delhi: A five-year old boy, abducted from New Delhi Railway Station on Wednesday, was rescued by Delhi Police team in 48 hours and the kidnapped nabbed, police said. The kidnapper, a 35-year-old man, was identified as Vikas Verma.

A woman from Odisha’s Cuttack had lodged complaint with New Delhi Railway Police Station (NDRS) regarding her missing 5-year-old son. Owing to police’s quick action, the accused was apprehended and child rescued in 48 hours.

Police teams were formed under NDRS SHO Rajesh Maurya and under overall supervision of ACP Sanjeev Chahar, they launched detailed enquiry, scanned the station premises & CCTV footages overnight while activating their networks & sources. Next morning, they received a tip-off about the accused and latter was quickly nabbed.

The victim’s family belongs to Odisha’s Cuttack district. They had come to Delhi from Indore to catch the next train to native place. While the woman was sitting on platform number 6/7, her youngest child was lifted by the miscreant.

After she filed kidnapping complaint, police scanned the CCTV footages from station premises and located an unidentified person with the child.

“The clothes worn by the accused, during the time of kidnapping was also recovered,” police said.

How the child was kidnapped

Vikas Verma does the work of goldsmith. A year ago, he incurred heavy losses and got trapped in deep debt. A resident of Hathras, he is separated from his wife. After he lost business, he started working as petty vendor in running trains.

On the fateful day, while he was roaming at NDLS, he saw a woman along with her 3 children. He took away the youngest child by befriending & befooling him.

On interrogation, the cops found that “he took the child to Katra the same night and returned to NDRS next morning on board Shri Shakti Express. He was planning to take the child further to his native place Hathras.”
