Delhi weekend curfew from Friday 10 PM to Monday 6 AM; essential services exempted

New Delhi: As the national capital registers strong surge in Coronavirus infections, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced weekend lockdown, imposing restrictions on certain services.

“We need to do something urgently to control the spike in Covid cases. For this, we have taken a decision that there will be a weekend curfew in Delhi. However, let me make it clear, that essential services will be allowed,” CM Kejriwal announced in a video address.

“We will give passes even to people who are scheduled to get married,” he added.

Speaking on non-availability of beds, Kejriwal said, “There is no shortage of COVID-19 beds in Delhi hospitals. Over 5,000 beds are still available for COVID patients.

What’s permitted during weekend curfew

# Weekend curfew will begin at 10pm on Friday and continue till 6am on Monday.

# Essential services will be allowed.

# Passes will be given to those who are scheduled to get married.

# There will be special markets with special arrangement.
# Curfew passes for marriages and other permitted activities
# Gyms, pools, malls to be closed
# Cinema halls allowed at 30 per cent capacity
# 1 weekly market allowed per day per zone
# Only take-aways allowed; no dine-in will be allowed at restaurants

With over 2 lakh fresh Covid-19 cases, this is second-highest number of cases a country has ever registered in one day. The only country to have recorded a higher number of cases in a single day was the US, which had registered 3.09 lakh cases on January 8 of this year.
