Delhi’s Corona crisis: More than 78% patients isolated in homes, soaring containment zones a big worry

Corona cases are rising everyday, with the national capital registering a record 1,877 cases in 24 hours yesterday. The problem has accentuated further due to lack of Covid beds for treatment of patients.

New Delhi: With constant surge in new Covid-19 cases, Delhi is fast heading towards becoming ‘Corona capital’ of the country. Corona cases are rising everyday, with the capital registering a record 1,877 cases in 24 hours yesterday. The problem has accentuated further due to lack of Covid beds for treatment of patients.

Owing to such alarming situation, large number of Corona patients are being isolated at their homes. As per official figures, more than 78% Corona patients have been isolated at their homes. Till date, Delhi has registered more than 31,000 Corona cases, just behind Mumbai & Chennai.

There are a total of 18,543 active Corona cases in the capital. Out of this, 14556 Corona patients have been isolated in their homes, which accounts for about 78% of the active cases. According to Delhi govt figures, the city has seen 905 deaths due to Covid-19.

All 11 districts are in the grip of Coronavirus. Sample testing has been ramped up but so has the Covid-19 numbers. As per figures, North West and West Delhi have clocked 23% Corona cases while North East and South East have registered maximum 42% cases.

Out of tested samples in Central Delhi and Shahadra, 24.35% and 33% were tested positive for Covid-19.

No let up in Containment zones, numbers rising daily

Another worrying situation for the national capital is its increasing number of containment zones. The zones were cut-off from the rest of city to curb the spread of virus but they seem to be failing in purpose. Many new containment zones have come up while there are many others, where situation continues to remain as grim as earlier.

A couple of the regions were converted into containment zones but even after 42-48 days, they continue to remain containment zone.

An account of containment zones in Delhi:

South-East Delhi: Out of 27 containment zones, 19 have maintained status quo for last 28 days. 8 regions have been designated as containment zones for more than 48 days.

South Delhi: Out of 12, 10 containment zones continue to remain so for last 28 days. 8 zones continue to remain so for last 48 days

North Delhi: Out of 19 containment zones, 7 have maintained status quo for last 28 days. 3 zones have remained as it is for last 48 days

Central Delhi: Out of 7, 4 regions continue to be designated as containment zones for last 28 days while 3 for last 48 days

South-West Delhi: Out of 41, 8 regions continue to be designated as containment zones for more than 28 days while 4 for last 48 days.
