Development over devotion: No temple or mosque on public roads in UP, Yogi govt to demolish all

Uttar Pradesh government has decided to raze all illegal structures built on the sides of roads, highways, pavements and lanes. Those structures which came up after 2011 will be demolished and razed to the ground.

New Delhi: Yogi government’s priorites are clearly defined and focussed towards the state’s development and upliftment of living standards. And, it has decided to remove all roadblocks that come in path of development.

In its latest drive against illegal structures, Uttar Pradesh government has decided to raze all illegal structures built on the sides of roads, highways, pavements and lanes. Those structures which came up after 2011 will be demolished and razed to the ground.he

The government has issued directions to senior administrative and police officials to take necessary action.

In an official notification, the Home department said that no structure or construction of religious nature should be allowed on public roads, streets, pavements, and by the roadside. “If any such structure/construction has come up on January 1, 2011, or after, it should be removed immediately,” read the notification.

The decision by CM Yogi Adityanath-led government comes after a High court order. Concerned secretaries have been asked to submit a detailed report to the chief secretary in the next 2 months.

Officials to face punishment for any laxity

It also states that in case of any deviation or disobedience of these instructions, the officials concerned will be personally held responsible.

Disobedience of these orders will be taken as deliberate contempt of orders of the high court, which will be considered as criminal contempt, it said.

Recently, Bengaluru civic body too formed a comprehensive policy for removal or relocation or regularisation of illegal religious structures, constructed prior to September 29, 2009, on public streets, parks and other public places.
