DGCI finds Gautam Gambhir Foundations guilty for stocking COVID drugs

The drugs controller also informed the court that AAP MLA Praveen Kumar was also found guilty for similar offences under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

New Delhi: The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) informed the Delhi High Court on Thursday that the Gautam Gambhir Foundation was found guilty of unauthorisedly stocking, procuring, and distributing Fabiflu medicine to COVID-19 patients.

Earlier, the DCGI had given a clean chit to the foundation which was disapproved by the High Court. Delhi HC had ordered a re-investigation into the matter while asking for a new report on May 31. The drugs controller said that action will be taken against the foundation without further delays.

The drugs controller also informed the court that AAP MLA Praveen Kumar was also found guilty for similar offences under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

The division bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh had ordered a fresh report and investigation into the matter on Monday after the court disapproved the clean chit given to the foundation.

The court, however, found the report by Drugs Controller report against the AAP MLA Preeti Tomar, satisftying. The same bench had ordered the controller to conduct an investigation against her.

The court asked the controller on Thursday to file the progress report for other cases within six weeks as the hearing of the case has been scheduled for July 29. The matter was heard in the court after a PIL was filed asking how the politicians were able to procure larger amounts of certain medicines – required for the treatment of COVID-19, while the governments and patients were facing an acute shortage of them.
