Draupadi Murmu to be NDA’s Presidential candidate for elections, says BJP 

Draupadi Murmu will be a presidential candidate for the upcoming presidential elections of the NDA, announced BJP Chief on Tuesday.

New Delhi: Draupadi Murmu will be a presidential candidate for the upcoming Presidential elections of BJP, announced BJP-led NDA on Tuesday in a press conference at BJP headquarter in New Delhi.

Announcing the name for the upcoming Presidential elections, BJP chief JP Nadda said, ”For the first time, preference has been given to a woman tribal candidate. We announce Draupadi Murmu as NDA’s candidate for the upcoming Presidential elections.”

Murmu will fight against the Opposition’s candidate Yashwant Sinha for the Presidential post. The election for the post will be held on July 18 and the counting of votes will begin on July 21.

Who is NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu?

Draupadi Murmu was born at Odisha’s Mayurbhanj on June 20, 1968. She comes from a Santal family, a tribal ethnic group. She made her entry into the politics from Rairangpur.

Later, she became an MLA from the Rairangpur assembly constituency in the years 2000 and 2004.

She is known as the first woman Governor of Jharkhand. She is also the first tribal leader who became the governor of an Indian state.

If she wins the election, she will be the first tribal President of India. India will also get it,s second woman President.
