Ex-AAP councilor Tahir Hussain mastermind of Delhi riots, funded Rs 1.3 crore: Police chargesheet

The police, in the charge sheet, said that Hussain admitted to his involvement in the violence and also admitted that he was present at the terrace of his house at the time of the incident.

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Tuesday filed charge sheet against suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain and 14 others in a Karkardooma court in connection with the deadly riots in Chand Bagh area of northeast Delhi in February. Tahir’s brother has also been named in the chargesheet.

According to the 1,030-page charge sheet filed by Crime Branch, Hussain was the alleged mastermind who hatched the conspiracy and fanned the riots. He reportedly funded the Chand Bagh violence by giving Rs 1.30 crore.

Delhi riots

Chand bagh is the same area where the Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma was found dead in a drain and the area was apparently the worst-hit by the riots. Sharma’s family and eyewitnesses had directly accused Tahir Hussain for brutal murder.

The police, in the charge sheet, said that Hussain admitted to his involvement in the violence and also admitted that he was present at the terrace of his house at the time of the incident.

Hussain’s relative bought 100 ammunition days before riots

A relative of Hussain named Gulfam had on January 31 bought 100 live ammunitions, of which only seven have been recovered by the police, the charge sheet said.

The police said that it is clear that the bullets were used during the violence.

Court to hear matter on June 16

Before the Delhi riots, Hussain also met the Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi and others who had participated in the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The purpose of the meeting is yet to be ascertained.

The court will take cognizance of the charge sheet on June 16.
