New Delhi: The Assembly elections 2022 in five states will commence today, after the seventh and final phase of voting in Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

As the election results for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur will be declared on March 10, all eyes are turned on the exit polls now to get a hold on public mood in these states.

What are Exit Polls?

Multiple media organizations produce predictions about the election results through various sampling methods, to be released before the Election Commission announces the actual results post poll counting.

These predictions in general are based on questions asked to a random set of individuals, physically or virtually, such as ‘which party have they voted and why’.

After collecting numerous samples, the organizations decode these responses to get a hold of the political mood of the public.

Sharing of the exit polls by any print or electronic media between February 10 to March 7, through any mode or platform is prohibited.

“No person shall conduct any exit poll and publish or publicize the results of any exit poll by means of print or any other manner”, the poll body stated in its order.
