New Delhi: The gruesome & horrible incident of Manipur, where two tribal women were disrobed & paraded naked on the streets, shook the conscience of nation and underlined the immediate need for unprecedented crackdown on hooligans running amok.
Sadly, the heart-wrenching incident soon gave way to political bickering and squabbling. Congress demanded exemplary action with no less than Chief Minister Biren Singh’s resignation while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) scoffed at former, citing numerous incidents of sexual assault & molestation in Rajasthan & Chattisgarh.
After fierce furore & outrage, the Manipuri police arrested 5 key accused of the mob, ranging upto 1,000 in number but is the action enough, can it ‘undo’ the horror that the two women went through, is the bigger question?
Meanwhile, a picture of BJP Vice-President & his 10-year old son started circulating along with the Manipur nude video, with claims of their involvement in the unspeakable horror in the state. A couple of Twitter handles claimed their ‘tacit or direct role’ in ravaging the women amidst a big gathering of people.
A couple of Facebook posts claimed that such barbarity and bestiality unraveled under the watch of BJP-led government and it can’t evade responsibility. A couple others claimed that BJP-RSS was directly behind the sexual assault and gangrape of two women & their nude parade in the state.
Bunch of Thoughts, a Twitter handle linked to RSS, took note of the viral claim and strongly rejected the charges. It sought to debunk the ‘outlandish claim’ by some ‘motivated’ Twitter handles and demanded that cases be lodged against them for making baseless claims.

Opposition has gone ballistic on BJP-led govt in Manipur but no political link has emerged in the horrific incident so far. The naked parade & barbarianism with women’s body is seen to be a fall-out of bitter war between Kuki & Meitei communities. Police has also not found any political link so far. At the outset, this charge of BJP leader’s involvement seems to be emanating on the social media itself.
While the nation remains angered & enraged over women being used as ‘instruments of violence’, it will require a lot of comforting & healing touch in bringing the situation back to normal.
