Farmers stir turns ‘murderous’: Man set on fire, dies; family alleges 4 accused part of protest

The victim’s family has alleged that he was set ablaze by 4 of the men who were part of the farmers protest at Tikri border. The victim has been identified as Mukesh.

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 40-year-old man was burnt alive in Bahadurgarh, Haryana. The incident happened reportedly near the farmers protest site. The man suffered about 90% burn injuries and subsequently succumbed to the injuries.

The victim’s family has alleged that he was set ablaze by 4 of the men who were part of the farmers protest at Tikri border. The victim has been identified as Mukesh. According to police officials, an FIR has been registered against four men.

Bahadurgarh DSP told a leading daily, “The victim’s family has alleged that four people set him on fire after sprinkling petrol or diesel. One accused has been identified as Krishan from Jind.”

Police is conducting probe to ascertain whether the accused were known to victim or not. However, reports suggest that an altercation happened between them after the drinks. As it escalated further, the 4 men allegedly set him on fire.

“Mukesh’s brother Madan called me and asked to come to the bypass. When I reached there, Mukesh had already been set on fire. We called an ambulance and took him to the civil hospital. In the ambulance, he told us that he had been drinking with four men who had told him they were part of the farmers’ movement. He said they set him on fire using a matchstick, Mukesh succumbed to injuries at around 2.30 am,” the daily quoted village sarpanch Toni Kumar as saying.
