Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai’s 2013 tweet on PM Modi goes viral, gets slammed by netizens

Many others including the right-wing handles have also expressed their anger & disdain over her ‘extremist’ views while some demanded that she gives up her citizenship as promised earlier.

New Delhi: While the Canada-based filmmaker Leena Manimekalai gets slammed from left, right & centre for her utterly disrespectful portrayal of Goddess Kali in her documentary, her old tweet is getting viral on the social media.

Her 2013 tweet has surfaced on the social media, in which her hatred & abhorrence against Narendra Modi is clearly visible. In the tweet dated September 13, 2013, Manimekalai wrote, “I will surrender my passports, rationcard, pancard and my citizenship if ever Modi becomes this country’s PM in my lifetime. I swear (sic).”

This tweet has further opened floodgates of criticism for the filmmaker who has already been at the receiving end over insulting poster of Goddess Kaali. The Toronto-based director is facing strong criticism from netizens over her old tweet, in which she promised to surrender her citizenship if Modi becomes PM of the country.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, in his searing remarks, said that she was a liability for the country. Many others including the right-wing handles have also expressed their anger & disdain over her ‘extremist’ views while some demanded that she gives up her citizenship as promised earlier.

Her 2013 tweet dates back to the time when Narendra Modi was making a switch from state to national politics and BJP campaign was getting centered around the Gujarat model. In May 2014, Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of country for the first time.

Meanwhile, Leena Manimekalai continues to remain defiant despite Twitter taking down the posters of her documentary ‘Kaali’. The filmmaker slammed the microblogging website for pulling down posters and termed the decision as hilarious and also asked whether it would also withhold posts by ‘hatemongers’.

She created a flutter on social media when shared a poster of the movie in which a character dressed as Goddess Kaali was seen smoking cigarette.
