FIR against Ram Gopal Varma for calling NDA’s Presidential poll pick as ‘Mahabharata’s Draupadi’

FNew Delhi: A tweet of famous director Ram Gopal Varma on the NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu has invited an FIR against him.  The FIR was failed by Subhas Rajora, an advocate High Court, at Bandra Metropolitan Court, Mumbai. Rajora dubbed the tweet of the filmmaker ”offensive”, ”obnoxious” and ”smacks”.

He further said the tweet is mischief and intended to tarnish the image and reputation of the proposed Presidental candidate. ”It causes embarrassment and also hurt me,” said Rajora.

Who are the Pandavas, says Varma

In the tweet tweeted on June 22, Ram Gopal Varma wrote, ”If Draupadi is the President who are the Pandavas?” ”And more importantly, who are the Kauravas?,” added Varma.

On the tweet, Rajora said that the tweet was outrageous respect for women on social media.

However, Varma again tweeted on June 24 to make his stand clear on the social media platform. Varma said his tweet was just in earnest irony and he did not tweet with an intention to hurt the sentiments of anyone.

”This was said just in an earnest irony and not intended in any other way…Draupadi in Mahabharata is my favourite character but since the name is such a rarity I just remembered the associated characters and hence my expression. Not at all intended to hurt the sentiments of anyone,” read the tweet of Ram Gopal Varma.

Next hearing to be on Oct 10

The complaint against the 60-year-old director was filed under Sections 499, 500, 504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). It is reported that the advocate Saroj approached the Court after the Nirmal Nagar Police station did not initiate legal action. Sarjo reportedly also made a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Assistant Commissioner of Police, B.K.C, Bandra, Mumbai. Notably, the next hearing in the case is scheduled to be heard on October 10.
