Following ISRO’s accomplishment with Chandrayaan-3, NASA made an offer to buy ISRO’s space technology

While speaking to students at an event hosted by the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Foundation in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, he explained that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allowed private companies to enter the space industry because “times have changed” and India can now produce the best devices and rockets.

New Delhi: According to S. Somanath, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), NASA-JPL scientists offered India to share its space technology with the US after seeing the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft’s development operations.

Somanath spoke at a recent ceremony at Rameshwaram honouring the 92nd birthday of the late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, during which he recounted India’s remarkable progress in space technology, including the creation of the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

“Our country is a very powerful nation. You understand that? Our knowledge and intelligence level in the country is one of the best in the world,” The chairman of ISRO was reported stating this by PTI.

According to Somanath, while the ISRO was designing and developing the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, they engaged scientists from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA-JPL), which is responsible for all of the rockets and the most complex missions.

According to Somanath, perhaps five or six individuals from NASA-JPL made their way to the ISRO headquarters to brief them on the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

The space scientists from the United States also said that the scientific equipment was available at a reasonable price.

“Very easy to build and they are high technology. How did you build it? Why don’t you sell this to America,’ they were asking,” he said.

He tried to convey to the students that ISRO is capable of producing the greatest equipment, the best technologies, and the best rockets in the country.

Somanath added that everyone from NASA and the space agencies of Europe and China had congratulated him on the success of the Chandrayaan-3 project when he spoke about his recent participation in a space conference.

“Today it is a golden era that is coming back and in the next 25 years, we have to build back an India which is technology prosperous. Naturally, it will become economically prosperous. When it becomes economically prosperous you should be able to influence world decisions” the ISRO chief said.

On August 23, India became just the fourth nation in history to land on the Moon, joining the United States, China, and the Soviet Union. The Chandrayaan-3 lander became the first to successfully touch down the lunar south pole.

The ISRO chief went on to urge youngsters to join the organisation and help make India a space technology superpower by working on rockets and satellites. He also mentioned two more space organisations – the Chennai-based rocket manufacturer Agnikul and the Hyderabad-based firm Skyroot. There are now at least 5 rocket and satellite manufacturers in India who are also equally capable as ISRO, he added.

Somanath urged the young people in attendance to adopt Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s worldview, arguing that the most effective weapon is hope.
