From The Archives: PM Modi’s handwritten note from 1980s to 15-year old speech for Mahatma Gandhi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi as he paid tributes to Bapu on his 153rd birth anniversary on Sunday.

The nation observes the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi i.e. October 2 as Gandhi Jayanti. Further, the day has been adopted as the International Day of Non-Violence by the UN General Assembly in 2007.

Paying tribute to Babu, PM Modi wrote on Twitter, “Paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi on #GandhiJayanti. This Gandhi Jayanti is even more special because India is marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. May be (we) always live up to Bapu’s ideals…”.

He further asked people to buy Khadi and handicraft products on the day to give a boost to the Khadi industry in India. Prime Minister also visited Delhi’s Rajghat on Sunday morning to pay his respects to Gandhi.

1. Hand written note by PM Modi from 1980s

A young Narendra Modi penned down Bapu’s quote in his personal diary, the public welfare schemes of whom continue to echo the Mahatma’s idea – Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. The quote goes as – “The only real, dignified, human doctrine is the greatest good of all”.

2. Modi seeking blessings from Mahatma Gandhi just days before taking oath as CM in 2001
