G-20 Summit: ‘Tourist smart cards’ go on sale from today, how will it benefit visitors

A huge footfall of passengers is expected in the national capital during & after the upcoming Summit. Anticipating the surge in metro commuters, the Delhi Metro has set up these counters at 36 metro stations, where it will issue cards in 2 categories.

New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming G20 Summit in the national capital, the Delhi Metro on Monday rolled out its ‘Tourist Smart cards’ to cater to plethora of foreign dignitaries & guests visiting the city.

The Delhi Metro said that special G20 counters have been raised at select Metro stations for issuing these tourism-dedicated cards, from Sept 4 to Sept 13.

Anticipating the surge in metro commuters, the Delhi Metro has set up these counters at 36 metro stations, where it will issue cards in 2 categories – one with 1-day validity & other with 3-day validity, offering ‘unlimited rides’ in the metro network.

A Delhi Metro official said these dedicated counters were started to facilitate G-20 visitors to enable them to explore various locations in the city via metro trains.

Card price & validity

The DMRC has set up prices for 1-day and 3-day validity cards. While the tourism smart card with 1-day validity is priced at Rs 200, the other with 3-day validity will cost Rs 500. Out of this, Rs 50/- will be refundable security.

Where can you purchase tourist cards

The Delhi Metro has earmarked 36 stations for ticket purchase. They are Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, and Supreme Court (earlier known as Pragati Maidan) metro stations.

Delegates from as many as 19 countries including the European Union are expected in the capital for the G20 summit on Sept 9 & 10. The G20 Summit will be held at the newly built state-of-the art international convention centre at Pragati Maidan – Bharat Mandapam.

Among the most high-profile world leaders visiting the country are US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
