G20: No Swiggy, Zomato, or Amazon deliveries in central Delhi from sept 8-10

Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) SS Yadav addressed the media on September 4, outlining the security measures, stating, “We can’t allow cloud kitchen and food delivery services. Internet delivery companies such as Amazon and Flipkart will also not be allowed to operate in the controlled zone. Delivery executives can take medicines and essential items.”

New Delhi: As the eagerly anticipated G20 Leaders’ Summit approaches, scheduled for September 9-10 at the newly inaugurated international convention and exhibition center, Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan, stringent security measures have been put in place. To ensure the safety and smooth execution of this high-profile event, authorities have announced a series of restrictions in the New Delhi district, including the suspension of all online delivery and commercial services for a three-day period.

According to reports from PTI, these restrictions will encompass cloud kitchens, commercial establishments, markets, food delivery services, and commercial delivery services throughout the New Delhi district.

In essence, this means that cloud kitchens, popular platforms like Swiggy and Zomato, and e-commerce giants such as Amazon will be temporarily barred from conducting business within the designated controlled zone during the summit.

However, to ensure that essential needs are met, the delivery of vital medical items, including lab reports and sample collections, will continue to be permitted across the city. Additionally, vehicles associated with critical establishments such as hotels, hospitals, and key installations in the New Delhi District involved in housekeeping, catering, and waste disposal will be allowed access after thorough verification.

“Essential services such as postal and medical services, sample collections by path labs will be allowed throughout Delhi,” added Mr. Yadav, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted essential services.

Furthermore, it has been clarified that while security measures will be stringent, metro services in the city will largely remain unaffected. Yadav assured the public that apart from the Pragati Maidan station (Supreme Court), metro services at other stations would not face disruptions. However, some brief delays and gate closures of 10-15 minutes may occur at certain stations due to VIP movements and security restrictions.

In addition to these measures, all Central government offices in the national capital will be temporarily closed from September 8 to 10 in consideration of the G20 summit. This temporary closure is part of a broader effort to ensure the security and efficiency of this prestigious international event as leaders from across the globe converge in New Delhi for critical discussions on global issues.
