Ghaziabad assault case: Samajwadi Party leader Ummed Pahalwan Idrisi arrested in Delhi

Idrisi had accompanied Sufi Abdul Samad Saifi, the man who was assaulted by 6 people, to the police station to file a case on June 7. He later did a Facebook Live with Samad and tried to give communal colour to the incident.

New Delhi: In a crucial breakthrough in the Loni assault case, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Ummed Pahalwan Idrisi was arrested in Delhi on Saturday.

A team of Ghaziabad police arrested Ummed Pahalwan Idrisi along with another person, Gulshan. He was absconding for a few days, but police finally arrested him near Lok Narayan Jai Prakash Hospital in Delhi.

“Ummed Pahalwan has been arrested. He will be brought here for further investigation,” SSP Ghaziabad Amit Pathak told media.

FIR was lodged against Ummed Pehalwan over charges of creating communal unrest by giving the incident a communal twist.

SP leader tried to give communal colour via FB Live

The SP leader has been booked for “spreading communal hatred” via social media in connection with the assault case of the elderly man.

FIR also states that Facebook did not fact-check the video and allowed it to be shared.

Ghaziabad Police have ruled out any communal angle in the incident and said the victim knew the assailants personally.
