New Delhi: Ayesha, a married woman in Ahmedabad, Gujarat committed suicide by jumping in the Sabarmati River. Before she jumped in the river, she recorded a last message for the world. In the message she said that she is not doing anything out of pressure and she is glad she will meet Allah.

After ending the video and sending it to her family, she jumped off the bridge into the river. When the family received the video, they called the police immediately. But they were too late as she had drowned already. Fire brigade officials and a rescue team retrieved her body from the river.

According to police, the victim was Ayesha Banu Makrani (23), a resident of Almina Park in Vatva of Ahmedabad, who was employed with ICICI Bank in the city.

Ayesha was married to Aarif Khan Gafurji from Jalore in Rajasthan. They got married in July 2018 and were recently estranged from each other. Ayesha was staying with her parents in Ahmedabad since March last year.

After the video emerged, the police have lodged a case under IPC section 306 for ‘abetment to suicide’ against Aarif at Sabarmati Riverfront West police station.

Ayesha’s father had already filed a case against Aarif in Vatva police station in 2020 against Aarif and his parents for domestic violence against his daughter after which an FIR was lodged. The case is currently sub judice at the Ghee Kanta metropolitan court in Ahmedabad.

In his statement, Makrani said, “My daughter was married to Aarif on July 6, 2018 in Jalore of Rajasthan; however, her in-laws started demanding dowry from her. On December 5, 2018, Aarif sent Ayesha back to my place after a fight. We then sat with the couple and came to a solution and she was sent to Jalore. Then in July 2019, she was again sent back to my place by her husband. Then on January 26, 2020 Aarif took her back after taking Rs 2.5 lakh dowry from me. “

“However, he and his parents then started physically assaulting my daughter for dowry and on March 10, 2020 Ayesha was again sent to my home,” he added/

In the starting of the video also, she had mentioned the domestic violence case, “Hello, Aslam Alekum. My name is Ayesha Arif Khan and what I am going to do now, I am going to do it as per my own will. There was no pressure on me. Now what can I say? Just understand that the life given by Allah (god) was only this long and I found this short life very peaceful. And dad, how long will you fight? Withdraw the case.”
