Gujarat cabinet pays tribute to former chief minister Late Madhavsinh Solanki

After the cabinet meeting, Mr Vijay Rupani visited the residence of the deceased and expressed his feeling of grief and prayed for eternal peace and give strength to his family.

New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani chaired a Cabinet meeting today and paid tribute to Former Chief Minister late Madhavsinh Solanki.
Members of the Cabinet observed a two-minute silence in honor of the late Madhavsinh Solanki and prayed for the departed soul.

After the cabinet meeting, Mr Rupani visited the residence of the deceased and expressed his feeling of grief and prayed for eternal peace and give strength to his family.

Four-time Gujarat Chief Minister Madhavsinh Solanki passed away today at his residence in Gandhinagar. The veteran Congress leader was 93. He was also India’s External Affairs Minister under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao.

The veteran Congress leader breathed his last at his residence in Gandhinagar on Saturday morning. PM Modi condoled the death of Congress veteran on Twitter.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter to express his condolences.

About late Madhavsinh Solanki

The Government is deeply saddened by the sudden death of late Madhavsinh Solanki, Former Chief Minister of Gujarat, former Minister of External Affairs of the Government of India and a leading politician of the state at the age of 94 on 09/01/2020 at Gandhinagar.

Madhavsinh Solanki, Cong leaderMr. Madhavsinh Solanki was born on 30th July 1927 at Piludra in Mehsana district.

He started his political career in 1947. He first became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 1976, then served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 1981 to 1985 and from 1989 to 1990. He served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for four times. He also served as the Minister of External Affairs in the Government of India during the period of 1991-92.

He announced a change in its policy of reservation for the economically and socially backward classes. He was the first to introduce the idea of mid-day meal scheme for students in Gujarat state schools.

He also worked in the field of literature and journalism. He always gave priority to public service at every stage.
