Gujarat govt partners with Tata Group for setting up Indian Institute of Skills

The Government of Gujarat will start work for IIS at Nasmed, about 20 km from Ahmedabad, which is aimed at providing training in highly specialized areas. The state government has allotted around 20-acre land to the Tata Group for the same.

New Delhi: The Indian Institute (IIS) of Skills is being established by Labour and Employment department along with Tata Group at Nasmed village of Gandhinagar.

A high-powered team from Tata Group consisting of senior officer Mr. H N Srinivas, legal advisor Mr. Uday Khare and his team gave a presentation. ACS Mr.Vipul Mitra, Labour & Employment department asked the Tata Group to start the work on an immediate basis. The group gave an action plan and assured to start the work as soon as possible.

Mr.Vipul Mitra, ACS said that the Indian Institutes of Skills is aimed at providing training and developing highly skilled technical manpower to meet the demands of highly specialized areas such as Technology and Manufacturing trades like Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Additive Manufacturing, Augmented Reality, System Integration, Cloud based Application, Simulation Solutions, Industrial Robots, Big Data Analysis, Factory Automation, Digital Manufacturing, Smart Mechatronics, Predictive Maintenance, Digital Quality & Design. Also, trades related to defence, aerospace, oil & gas.

Institute to impart training in highly specialized areas

The Indian Institute of Skills is being developed on a Not-for-profit Public Private Partnership mode by the Tata Group along with the state’s Labour and Employment department. While the state government has provided land for the Institute, Tata Education Development Trust is contributing for the capital investment.

“The Indian Institutes of Skills will emerge as a premier training institute on the lines of Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) and Indian Institute of Technology (IITs). It is a major step towards equipping youth with the right training and skills needed keeping in mind the demand of the industry in the future,” Mr. Vipul Mitra said.

He added, “A minimum of 5,000 students will graduate every year from the Institute five years after commencement of its operations, with a 70% placement target.”

In addition to Ahmedabad, the Union Government has also approved Indian Institutes of Skills in Mumbai and Kanpur.
