New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday changed the display picture (DP) of his social media pages to the Tricolour, as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. While doing so, he also urged the countrymen to follow the same and show solidarity with the drive to take the Tricolour to people’s homes.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, PM Modi said, “It is a special 2nd August today! Our nation is all set for #HarGharTiranga, a collective movement to celebrate our Tricolour.”
Prime Minister also urged the countrymen to change their profile photo of social media with the Tricolour.
Har Ghar Tiranga program is an ambitious initiative by the Centre, under which citizens are being encouraged & pursued to hoist & display the tricolor at their homes. At least 20 crore homes are expected to unfurl the tricolor at their homes between August 13 – 15.
Earlier, in his Mann Ki Baat address, PM Modi urged the citizens to join the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and help in making a mainstream movement.
It is a special 2nd August today! At a time when we are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, our nation is all set for #HarGharTiranga, a collective movement to celebrate our Tricolour. I have changed the DP on my social media pages and urge you all to do the same. pic.twitter.com/y9ljGmtZMk

Shah, Nadda join the drive
Soon after PM Modi, other top ministers & BJP President changed the DP of their profile to tricolor. Home Minister Amit Shah and party president J P Nadda followed suit.
Flag code amended
The government has also amended the Flag Code to allow the display of tricolor in the open and also in houses & buildings. The new code allows people to display the Tricolour at their homes in day & night, unlike earlier when it was supposed to stay erected from sunrise to sunset.
The Flag Code of India was earlier amended in December 2021, in which it allowed the use of polyester, wool, silk and khadi for making flags.
A citizen, a private organisation or an educational institution may hoist or display the national flag on all days and occasions. There is no restriction on timing of flag display.
