New Delhi: As India hosted the powerful global powers during the two-day G20 Summit on Sept 9-10 in the national capital, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) took the centre stage, drawing the attention & admiration from foreign delegates.

Lot many foreign delegates got a first-hand experience of the ‘game-changing’ mobile application and hailed India’s transition from ‘cash economy to digital economy.’

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology on Tuesday shared a video with caption, “India’s DPI model, fascinating the world.”

Digital Payment Infrastructure (DPI), also known as India Stack, comprises of many digital platforms that include Aadhar, Digital locker, UPI and DigiYatra. The DPI initiative hopes to create an efficient way for citizens to subscribe to many government schemes and get benefitted from it.

In the video shared by IT minister, several foreigners can be seen heaping praise on easy & seamless UPI transactions.

One user said, ‘shopping has been really wonderful via this method’ while other lauded it for its ‘easy features’.
“Looks very simple & easy. It was fascinating to go through this,” said Netherlands PM Mark Rutte.

For the unversed, a Digital India Experience zone was developed at the Bharat Mandapam structure during G 20 Summit, to showcase India’s digital public infrastructure (DPI) of the country. Delegates from 19 G20 nations along with invited delegates were given a chance to experience India’s seamless Digital initiative. Under India’s G20 presidency, at least 1,000 foreign delegates were shown the easy handling of payments using the homegrown solution.

Lately, the UPI has become extremely popular, specifically among the younger generation. People are using it extensively and the surge in numbers is testimony of people’s increasing belief in this digital retail payment. In August alone, the UPI transactions were said to cross past 10 billion mark.
