Burglars break into Delhi’s posh society, flee after resident raises alarm; callous cops add to woes

While the thieves were smashing almirah & wardrobes in search of valuables, the resident woke up & raised an alarm after seeing them at home. Sensing trouble, the masked robbers ran away by jumping balcony of the building.

New Delhi: In a frightening incident in the heart of national capital, two masked burglars broke into a house of the posh locality this morning and tried to rob the residents of valuables & jewelleries.

It was only when the floor owner shouted & screamed at them, the burglars ran away from the building in Delhi’s Yojana Vihar area. But, more than the theft attempt, it’s the callous police action that calls for closer scrutiny as their delayed action could have imperiled lives of residents.

After noticing suspicious activity at his home, the resident frantically called up police & sought help via social media but that went in vain. No police assistance came for a long time.

Resident called up the police helpline No 100 at 4.57 am, after he saw burglars at his flat. But, the PCR van took almost half an hour to reach the spot.

Local police didn’t reach the building even after 30 minutes, despite the police station situated in close vicinity. Yojana Vihar society is situated hardly 1 km from Vivek Vihar police station but police failed to reach on time. Had the cops were prompt & proactive, the masked thieves could have been caught & identified.

Sandeep Sehgal also sought help on social media by tagging Delhi Police but no help came, thereby exposing the hollow promises of ‘Dil ki police’.

Resident recounts tale of horror

In the wee hours of Tuesday morning, when the resident & his family were asleep at their home in posh Vivek Vihar locality, a group of burglars apparently sneaked in by breaking the door lock.

While the thieves were smashing almirah & wardrobes in search of valuables, the resident woke up & raised an alarm after seeing them at home. Sensing trouble, the masked robbers ran away from balcony of the building.

Recounting the horror, the resident says “it was very scary moment for me & my family as it could have led to serious trouble. Had the robbers attacked us in spite of fleeing, imagine what would have been the case.”

He says the delayed & slack behaviour of Delhi police have left them really disappointed. “If they can’t safeguard people within 1 km vicinity of the police station, it shows the sorry state of affairs,” he says.
