New Delhi: Amid the high-decibel campaign in Uttar Pradesh, the political heavyweights have jumped in the fray to contest Assembly Elections. Priyanka Gandhi on Friday said that she was the face of party in poll-bound state but remained evasive on contesting the elections.

Yogi Adityanath & Akhilesh Yadav, the CM face of their parties have already announced their candidature in polls.

Amid fuelling speculations about her contesting elections, Priyanka told a leading news channel that she may contest polls too, however, maintained that she can’t be seen as the Chief Ministerial of Congress party.

What ignited speculations about her candidature for Cong CM face was Priyanka’s reply to a question in press conference.

Priyanka Gandhi

To a question on who will be the CM face of Congress in Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka shot back a question, “do you see any other face in UP from the Congress’s side? Then?” Asked again, she said, “you are seeing my face everywhere, isn’t it?”

When she was asked about the constituency, Vadra said, “When it is decided, you will get to know. We haven’t made a decision on it yet.”
Priyanka’s decision to contest the Assembly could be a brave decision to contest polls as this will enthuse & invigorate the party cadre to launch a fresh drive for high-stakes poll fight. Party cadre can take inspiration from the fact that when Gandhis are ready to risk their prestige for the electoral battle, why can’t they?

Gandhis have never fought an Assembly seat. In 2019 too, there was intense talk of Priyanka taking on Lok Sabha fight against PM Modi from Varanasi but the party decided against it. Arvind Kejriwal however chose to test the political waters by contesting against Prime Minister despite latter’s immense appeal.

This time, Chandrashekhar Azad is contesting against Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur town despite knowing the fact that it’s a lost battle.
